Mitchell Robinson comes off the Knicks bench

When Mitchell Robinson returns, which could be next week, coach Tom Thibodeau plans to put him back in the rotation.

“When a guy comes back from an extended injury or a period where he’s been out, I think it takes a little bit of time to get that timing back,” Thibodeau said, according to The Athletic. “He probably makes more sense with shorter minutes (bringing him off the bench). We’ll see how it plays out.

Robinson hasn’t come off the bench since a Nov. 20, 2022 loss to the Phoenix Suns as he returned from a right knee sprain last season. He scored two points on 1-of-2 shooting, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in 17 minutes off the bench with Isaiah Hartenstein starting.

Although his role off the bench lasted just one game last season, it could be longer this time as he is set to miss more than half of this season when he is cleared to return.
