John Calipari may have signed a lifetime contract with Kentucky, but that won’t stop NBA rumors.

On Wednesday, the New York Post’s Marc Berman published an article stating that some sources said they did not count Calipari for the Knicks’ coaching job.

Calipari has ties to the Knicks’ new management team, President Leon Rose, a former agent of the Creative Artists Agency, and William Wesley, a Knicks consultant. In February, Agent David Falk said he thought Calipari would end up with the Knicks.

An April report even claimed that Calipari could not be ruled out as a candidate for the Knicks.

Despite Calipari’s ties to the Knicks, it would still be surprising to see him leave Kentucky. Maybe Calipari’s role as Nets manager still leaves him unsatisfied, but he’s been in Kentucky for a long time and has done so well there, that it would be hard to see him leave. It is not easy to leave behind a program that you created as Calipari.
