The Knicks’ All-Star goal will “undoubtedly” be up for grabs this offseason

The New York Knicks want Donovan Mitchell, All-Star of the Cleveland Cavaliers, at Madison Square Garden with the home jersey. Mitchell, who is leading the way for a Cavaliers team that has won 18 of its last 20 games, has roots in New York City and a long line of rumors linking him to the franchise once his contract expires.

Howard Beck of The Ringer reports that league executives are convinced Mitchell will leave Cleveland after next season, giving the Knicks a chance to make up for not pursuing Mitchell at this year’s trade deadline to pair Jalen Brunson in their corner defense, saying:

“There’s no question that he will leave once his contract expires,” Beck said without any gray area.

In October, Mitchell opted out of a contract extension with the Cavaliers, citing his opportunity to do so next summer as the reason he decided to remain flexible in his schedule, according to CBS Sports. It was also reported that Mitchell will be in line for around $260 million from the Cavs in the summer of 2025.
