Report: Nets will likely pursue Donovan Mitchell by trading with Cavaliers

According to NBA reporters Michael Scotto of HoopsHype and Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Brooklyn Nets will likely pursue a Donovan Mitchell trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Mitchell can sign an extension of up to four years and about $200 million this summer. The 27-year-old has a player option worth $37 million for the 2025-26 season.

Mitchell can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025 if he declines his player option.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein , there is a growing belief that the Cavaliers will be forced to trade Mitchell if an extension is not reached. The Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks have been linked to Mitchell, who does not have a no-trade clause in his contract.

One of the best players in the NBA, Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists this season, shooting 46.2 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from 3 and ‘86.5% from the free throw line.
