OG Anunoby’s string of injuries could give the Knicks headaches this offseason

The New York Knicks acquired OG Anunoby on December 30th. The veteran forward’s defensive prowess was seen as a big boost for Tom Thibodeau’s team. With a player option for next season, the Knicks knew they might have to re-sign him this offseason as they look to keep him long-term.

However, Anunoby has had a nagging elbow injury since he arrived in New York. He missed 18 games between January 29th and March 10th. He returned to the rotation for three games, but missed New York’s win over the Golden State Warriors on Monday.

And according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who spoke on Monday’s “NBA Countdown,” Anunoby’s absence will likely last more than one game.

“I was told OG Anunoby will be out more than just [Monday night], that right elbow has flared up again,” Wojnarowski said. “They need it to calm down. It’s unclear how long he’ll be out, but it’s certainly a concern for this Knicks team that doesn’t know the status of Julius Randle moving forward, and right now they’ll miss OG Anunoby more than this game”.
