Knicks’ Jalen Brunson can sign $156 million extension this summer

According to NBA front office member Bobby Marks of ESPN, New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson is eligible to sign a four-year, $156.5 million extension this summer.

Brunson is not eligible for the super max because he signed a free agent contract with the Knicks in July 2022.

Brunson signed a four-year, $104 million contract with the Knicks in 2022. He earns $26.3 million this season and will earn $24.9 million next season. The left-hander has a player option worth $24.9 million for the 2025-26 season.

One of the best players in the NBA, Brunson averaged 27.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.5 assists this season, shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from beyond beyond the arc and 84.4% from the free throw line.

The 27-year-old Brunson is fifth in the NBA in points, fifth in points per game, 14th in assists and 14th in assists per game. He is expected to make one of the three All-NBA teams.

The Knicks are 43-28 on the season. They are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. If the regular season ended today, New York would face the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.
