Chicago Bulls hire Billy Donovan as coach

Billy Donovan will become the new coach of the Chicago Bulls, to report the news is Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Donovan had just left the Oklahoma City Thunder after five years and elimination in the first round of the playoffs in 2020.

The Bulls had sacked coach Jim Boylen last August 14 after two seasons, a coach who is never too popular with players and one of the “victims” of the new front office structure of the team. Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley had replaced John Paxson and Gar Forman in recent months.

Donovan has therefore beaten the competition of important names such as Kenny Atkinson, former coach of the Brooklyn Nets, and of the quoted Wes Unseld Jr, assistant manager of the Denver Nuggets and Mike Malone, and son of the great Wes Unseld. In 5 years in Oklahoma City, Donovan reached the conference finals in his first season, and has always qualified for the post-season in subsequent years.
