What will be the future of Obi Toppin?

The Knicks have a critical decision to make, what to do with Obi Toppin? For three years Toppin was something of a problem. Toppin had little playing time and never averaged more than 17.1 minutes per season.

This situation has sparked numerous commercial rumors about him. The New York Knicks must understand if they want to count on him again if Toppin is part of New York’s plans.

Why did Toppin find little playing time?

Julius Randle blocked behind Obi Toppin. Although Randle has often been included in commercial rumors and the relationship with the fans is not quite so idyllic, the Knicks will not get rid of him. Therefore, this situation will see Toppin again almost on the margins of the rotations.

The argument with Thibodeau

That Toppin doesn’t like this situation is a fact. The Athletic reported that Toppin and coach Tom Thibodeau got into an intense verbal altercation following their Game 4 loss to New York in the second round in May. The argument came after Toppin only played six minutes in the game. There were no consequences, but what happened is a clear sign of frustration on the part of Toppin, who is tired of this situation.

Is Toppin staying in New York?

Obi Toppin would only stay in New York if he could be guaranteed more playing time. With Randle remaining on the Knicks roster it seems impossible that Toppin will find more space than in the past. His future therefore seems to be sealed and he will be away from New York.
