The reasons why Giannis Antetokounmpo is approaching the Knicks

Despite the emergence of guard Jalen Brunson, the Knicks still lack a true superstar, and some argue they haven’t had a true franchise player since Patrick Ewing in the 1990s. Luckily for New York, several stars could hit the market in the next few years, and it could end up with a chance to land these five.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the most obvious, not to mention ideal superstar target for the superstar-hungry Knicks.

He recently told the New York Times that he will not sign a contract extension to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks unless he feels they are on track to remain championship contenders for years to come. He can terminate his current contract in 2025 and the agreement will end in 2026.

Some, including NBA insider Marc Stein, have already speculated that the Knicks could actually be a destination for the Greek Freak if he decides to leave Wisconsin. However, that has become less likely considering the recent trade that paired him with Damian Lillard.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is not only arguably the best basketball player in the world, but he is also an exciting player who would regularly bring a lot of energy back to Madison Square Garden. At age 28, he’s at the peak of his powers and should have several great years left, meaning that with the right cast around him, perhaps he could deliver a Larry O’Brien Trophy to Manhattan.
