The reasons why Carmelo Anthony can actually return to the Knicks

Carmelo Anthony has resurrected his career and said he thinks he has found a home in Portland.

But rumors of a return to the Knicks will not die. Carmelo Anthony was represented by Leon Rose, now president of the Knicks, and New York has room to spend. In addition, Anthony returned to Manhattan to train at Chris Brickley’s facility.

Marc Berman of the New York Post says Carmelo Anthony can return to New York, especially if the Knicks mistake for Chris Paul.

… if point guard Chris Paul makes his way to the Knicks via a trade, sources said Anthony would probably want to follow him. Anthony and Paul are close friends who dreamed of playing together in the NBA and saw their alliance in Houston end prematurely….

If Julius Randle is part of a deal with Paul, the Knicks will need a small starting forward and a powerful forward. Anthony plays in both positions.

There are many though, there. Whether the Knicks can carry out a trade for CP3 tops the list – New York is rumored to want to do it with a deal centered around Randle and Kevin Knox, but that far overestimates Knox’s worth across the league. New York will have to hand over the players and the choices they like to close a trade.

If this happens, perhaps Anthony is considering a return to Madison Square Garden.
