Knicks: Thibodeau is already planning ahead, the official announcement could come soon

Tom Thibodeau is one of the main candidates for the position of head coach of the New York Knicks. Although nothing has been made official, it seems that the veteran coach is already planning for the future.

Reports are coming up that the 62-year-old mentor is using his spare time to watch Knicks games. This could be an indication of things to come.

Thibodeau awaits the decision of the best leaders of the New York Knicks as to whether or not he will be able to nod as the next manager. Mike Miller remains the club’s interim coach, but it seems that new team president Leon Rose wants someone else to call the shots.

Other names that have been linked to the coaching vacancy include Jeff Van Gundy, Mike Woodson, Mike Brown and Jason Kidd.

But from that list, Thibodeau is the favorite to be the next Knicks manager. If so, he will be given the task of reforming the New York team, which has attempted endlessly to rebuild past years. If it should be named, the first order of business is to understand who stays and who goes.

The team has a lot of promising young stars, including RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle. They also have a few veterans in Elfrid Payton and Maurice Harkless, who can finally thrive with proper guidance.

Among the names mentioned, it seems that Thibodeau has an excellent opinion of Mitchell, in particular as regards defense, according to NBC Sports.

Reportedly, Thibodeau has close ties with Rose, a reason why he is the favorite to get the job. It could only be a matter of time before it is made official. From previous names that have been interviewed for the job, Kidd reportedly impressed Knicks’ leadership. But it seems that’s not enough to put him in front of the heap since Thibodeau remains the favorite to win the position, Marc Berman of the New York Post reported.

The Knicks are unable to plan until a new coach is installed. Several names have been cited as targets, an effort to create a decent list for the coming season.

New York has many young talents but there is still a bona fide franchise player to lead the charge. This should be the next Knicks order after the new head coach has been appointed.
