The New York Knicks have done their due diligence on a few different perspectives in the upcoming NBA Draft. One player they asked about is Florida winger Devin Vassell.
The most publicized part of Vassell’s game is his defense, and rightfully so. Check all the boxes as a potential customer who can turn into a game-changing defensive chess piece. Vassell’s length and quickness are designed as someone who can protect multiple positions in the NBA.
While he certainly has the size and capriciousness to become a great defender on the ball, it’s Vassell’s awareness and high mover that has made him stand out among his peers.
The Knicks are in dire need of defenders. If the Knicks were to enlist Vassell, it’s hard to imagine anyone on the current roster having beaten him for the small starting spot. Having someone who effectively protects opposing wings is something the Knicks didn’t have last season.
Vassell’s alertness and persistent change fit perfectly into Tom Thibodeau’s aggressive defense. His impact on the defensive side of the ball would be felt right away.
