Knicks, Austin Rivers makes progress towards his Knicks debut

Although Knicks manager Tom Thibodeau said combo guard Austin Rivers only did “a little” in light training on Thursday, this was at least a step in the right direction for the newcomer, who skipped pretty much all of the training camp and did not appear a preseason game due to a right groin injury.

“It was slow,” Thibodeau told Zoom after Thursday’s rehearsal. “It’s a work in progress. He did a little bit today, which is encouraging. You have to watch out for that kind of injury.”

There is no calendar left for the 28-year-old guard, who signed a $ 10 million three-year deal with the Knicks in the off-season. He talked big about making them a free agent destination and being part of the solution. So far, however, the son of 76ers coach Doc Rivers has yet to be able to contribute in a tangible way.

“When it’s ready, it’ll be ready to go,” Thibodeau said.
