Van Gundy, who has worked as a game analyst for ESPN since his last coaching gig, will be interviewing with the Rockets on Wednesday, the New York Times’ Marc Stein reported on Twitter.
The Rockets have already interviewed Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Tyronn Lue on Monday, and Houston assistant John Lucas is expected to be brought in to discuss the opening after Van Gundy met with GM Daryl Morey.
58-year-old Van Gundy, who also coached the Knicks from 1996 to 2002, headed the Houston bench for four seasons from 2003 to 2007, making the playoffs three times.
