Knicks Rumors, Tyrese Maxey main goal in the draft

The Knicks have the eighth pick in the draft, but may be open to moving the pick if none of their main goals are available yet. The Knicks are interested in James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball. There is a good chance both players will be picked before the Knicks are on their feet, and at that point, the Knicks could try to trade some points in the draft, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Should the Knicks reciprocate, Kentucky guard Tyrese Maxey could become their primary target. From Berman:

According to two league sources, the Knicks are seriously mulling over trading in the November 18 draft unless big man James Wiseman or point guard LaMelo Ball return to eighth place. It has become increasingly clear that the Knicks’ top priority, Ball, is unlikely to slip. Wiseman, the Memphis 7-foot-1 athletic center, has seen some draft fluctuations. However, most NBA draft sources believe that Wiseman is unlikely to reach number 8, leaving the Knicks embarrassed.

A source guessed that the Knicks have Ball and Wiseman as two players they absolutely “love”, and have not yet been so impressed by any other perspective in a weak consensus project.

At no. 8, the Knicks held internal exchange talks with a team in the No. 12-15 to get a young player into his rookie contract while still making a lottery pick. One player who has been on their radar as a late lottery guy is combined guard Tyrese Maxey, a one-and-doner from Kentucky.
