Carmelo Anthony returns to Blazers despite Knicks interest

After showing the NBA world that he still has it, Anthony has drawn the attention of several free agency suitors this off-season. His former team, the New York Knicks, were perhaps the most interested organization.

There is a new regime in New York from the front office to the coaching staff. A lot has changed since Anthony’s time as a member of the Knicks. Therefore, considering a return to the Big Apple was a real possibility for the veteran.

Had Chris Paul landed in New York, Carmelo Anthony would have returned to the Knicks so he could reconnect with his friend. However, the chances of that happening went down the drain once Paul landed with the Phoenix Suns this week.

Anthony considered all the scenarios available, but ultimately decided that giving back to the Blazers is what’s right. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the veteran forward wanted to show loyalty to the Blazers. Therefore, he signed a one-year contract with them on Saturday, eliminating the potential of a Knicks reunion this season.
