The Knicks lose a first-round draft pick to the Mavericks in the 2023 NBA Draft

The Knicks can’t find luck on Lottery Night. The Dallas Mavericks finished with the 10th pick on Tuesday night, so the club will keep the 2023 first-round pick.

New York would have received Dallas’ first round pick if the pick fell outside the top 10. Dallas entered the lottery with a 65.9% chance of staying in 10 and a 79.8% overall chance of keeping the pick.

The Mavericks intentionally lost the last two games of their season to finish with the 10th worst record in the league. This ensured that they would miss out on the qualifying tournament and have a strong chance of making their 2023 first round match.

The NBA fined the organization $750,000 for doing so.

The Knicks now own Dallas’ 2024 first-round pick if he doesn’t make the top 10. The pick was acquired in the trade for Kristaps Porzingis.
