Rick Carlisle on Boston’s 1985 Christmas loss to Knicks: “The veteran guys got together and decided to give up drinking until we won the championship”

The 1986 Boston Celtics are considered one of the greatest NBA teams of all time. The club went 67-15 & won the title vs the Houston Rockets. They were coached by Celtic legend K.C. Jones, who recently passed away.

Current Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was a part of that championship squad and remembers when the team kicked into full gear. He says Boston’s success may have not been accomplished if it wasn’t for blowing a 25-point lead against New York on Christmas.
