Charlie Ward is the coach of the Florida High men’s basketball team in Tallahassee. With the Knicks, he played with Tom Thibodeau, then an assistant. Ward was an assistant to Thibodeau on Van Gundy’s staff in Houston.
“He’s definitely an offensive guy who can score basketball,” said Ward of Quickley. “Our games are different. But you need late first round picks that can play a role and be productive and potentially be a solid spin player. Most of the time you look at high draft picks and give them a lot of weight. But it’s all of them. Whoever gets into the system, you’re trying to find the right solution. I think it fits a role.
“He will continue to grow as a defender. But he is still young. He has the opportunity to play, unlike me, his first year. It is a good opportunity for him to gain experience. And going forward, he will continue to develop his offensive him, but he will also continue to develop his defense”.
