On Tuesday afternoon, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that 19-year-old forward Dink Pate was expected to join the New York Knicks for training camp. But by the evening, that plan had shifted dramatically.
According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Knicks elected to waive both Pate and fellow prospect Bryson Warren, who had been signed to Exhibit 10 contracts:
“The New York Knicks have waived Dink Pate and Bryson Warren. Both players were signed to Exhibit 10 deals to get them to the Westchester Knicks of the G League.”
Who Is Dink Pate?
Pate made headlines in 2023 when he signed with the NBA G League Ignite at just 17 years old, becoming the youngest U.S. professional basketball player in history. Skipping college, the Dallas native opted for the pro route, hoping to fast-track his path to the NBA.
Career Progression in the G League
Though Pate has yet to break into the NBA, he has shown steady improvement in the developmental circuit. During the 2024–25 season with the Mexico City Capitanes, he averaged 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.8% from the field. His progress in scoring, rebounding, and shot selection has been a promising sign for his long-term potential.
What’s Next for Pate
With the Knicks waiving his Exhibit 10 deal, Pate is expected to join the Westchester Knicks, New York’s G League affiliate, where he will continue honing his skills. At only 19, the forward still has significant upside and remains a name to watch for the future.
