Knicks, Trevor Keels is worth keeping

The Knicks’ top pick on their Summer League roster was Trevor Keels, who was the 42nd pick of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Trevor Keels generated some comparisons to Oklahoma City’s Lu Dort when he came out of Duke. Does this make sense. Keels is 6-4 and 221 lbs, while Dort is 6-4 and 220 lbs. Dort’s wingspan is 1.5 inches longer, but the point is, their frames are similar. Their games are also similar.

Keels got off to a strong start in Summer League before stumbling a bit in his last game when he went 1-for-7 from deep. Even with that rough play, he was shooting a respectable 33.3% from 3-point range on 4.8 attempts per game in five games. And while he struggled with his 3-point shooting in Saturday’s final game, he still amassed 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting overall while dishing out four assists.

The Knicks are deep, especially at the guard position after signing Donte DiVincenzo in free agency to a four-year, $50 million deal. However, he can never hurt to have another potential 3-e-D guard who can secure a cheap position or two in the pipeline. Keels can do it, and it’s worth seeing what else the Knicks can squeeze out of him on his two-way contract.
