Knicks, RJ Barrett’s work during the pandemic is paying off

Everything RJ Barrett worked on during his long offseason pandemic paid off, most notably with a gracious performance from the free-throw line, where he scored 86.7% of his tries in four preseason games. That’s a dramatic increase from last season’s bleak 61.4%.

“I just got a lot of reps,” Barrett said in a Zoom call on Sunday. “It’s definitely something that has bothered me since last season. I have a lot of repetitions. I haven’t done anything yet. I have to continue to be consistent “.

After working with his coach in Orlando, Barrett said he tinkered with the shooting technique, moving his right hand further to the side of the ball for a smoother release.

“I was working with Drew Hanlen over the summer, we changed it a bit, tweaked a couple of things,” Barrett said. “So far it has gone well. We just have to keep working on it, get reps”.
