Knicks, Obi Toppin: “I always want to win”

Obi Toppin must hope his record-breaking conditioning pays off in his rookie season.

Toppin, the eighth pick in last month’s draft, revealed that he scored the highest score on the franchise’s conditioning test, which is believed to consist mostly of running drills.

Apparently, the 6-foot-9 Dayton crush machine didn’t need a summer championship and its practices to get in top shape.

“I feel like from the moment I walked into this facility, [assistant manager] Kenny Payne has me prepared for the upcoming games,” Toppin said in a Zoom call Thursday. “I feel like I’m who I am, I want to grind, I always want to win, I feel like I’ve always been committed. When the time for conditioning comes, it’s like you’re automatically ready for it.

“When I go out, I do my best to get the highest score. I always ask what the highest score is so I can beat it. We did a conditioning test, I asked what the highest score was and I had to beat it. I believe I am the tallest person on the conditioning test. “
