Is there any reason for the Knicks to keep Quentin Grimes out of a trade?

The New York Knicks made headlines by dealing homegrown talents RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley on December 30th. Rumor has it that they may not be done.

Quentin Grimes , the team’s 2021 first-round pick, has remained in trade gossip thanks to his youth and upside. While he may be the Knicks’ most desirable asset outside of their surplus of draft picks, there may be a reason to keep him in their future draft.

SNY’s Rafael Canton is among those who want to see Grimes’ time extended, arguing that his defensive contributions cannot be denied.

“The 6-5 guard is one of the best defenders on the team and before (OG) Anunoby arrived, he was tasked with guarding stars like (Donovan) Mitchell, Jimmy Butler and Jayson Tatum,” Canton writes. “The Knicks defend better with Grimes on the court, giving up 3.0 more points per 100 possessions when he is off the court, per NBA stats.”
