The Denver Nuggets made key moves this offseason, including trading for Cam Johnson, setting themselves up as legitimate contenders to win the Western Conference next season. With Nikola Jokic, widely regarded as the best player in the world, surrounded by improved depth, Denver is once again expected to challenge for the NBA title.

Nuggets vs. Thunder: The Western Rivalry

While the Oklahoma City Thunder loom as their toughest competition, Denver’s roster construction suggests they’re prepared for another deep playoff run. Still, not everyone believes the Nuggets have done enough.

Sports Illustrated’s Trade Proposal

Ethen Hutton of Sports Illustrated recently floated a potential trade between the Nuggets and the New York Knicksthat would bring Josh Hart to Denver. The suggested deal looks like this:

  • Knicks receive: Christian Braun, Zeke Nnaji, Peyton Watson, 2031 first-round pick
  • Nuggets receive: Josh Hart

Why Josh Hart?

Hart has earned a reputation as a playoff performer who consistently delivers when it matters most. Known for his rebounding, hustle, and defensive versatility, he checks several boxes that could address Denver’s needs. Hutton argued:

“While Braun has developed into a solid piece around Jokic, Denver has missed a player who offers consistency in the postseason, such as Hart. He boxes out, rebounds, runs the floor and checks all the boxes for a contending team entering a new era under David Adelman.”

Is the Price Too Steep?

The trade would cost Denver multiple young assets and a future first-round pick. While Hart could add valuable playoff experience and toughness, the Nuggets must weigh whether sacrificing Braun’s upside and other depth pieces is worth the gamble.
