Celtics, Ime Udoka suspended for an intimate relationship with a staff member

The Celtics will suspend manager Ime Udoka for the season due to a violation of team guidelines, according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Assistant Joe Mazzulla will serve as the Celtics’ head coach in the meantime, added Himmeslbach.

Udoka was punished for an inappropriate relationship with a fellow Celtics employee, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The relationship was reportedly consensual. It has yet to be determined whether there is discipline for the woman involved in the relationship.

Udoka was due to meet with reporters on Monday for Celtics Media Day. Boston opens training camp the next day.
