Cassius Winston is the last idea of the Knicks

Cassius Winston is a tempting option for the Knicks. The decorated senior left Michigan State to hold the school’s all-time assist record and win the 2019 Big Ten Player of the Year award.

His senior season was his best, averaging 18.6 points and 5.9 assists per game, with an impressive 45-43-85 shooting. He has become extremely adept at orchestrating pick-and-roll and is able to perform almost every passage in the book.

Defenders are almost always forced to get past the screens due to his shot, allowing Winston to step into the paint and score or find the open man. He has a good understanding of when to drive and kick, a staple of modern NBA offenses.

Assuming he is selected by New York, he will probably be entered in pencil as the second unit point guard. Tom Thibodeau could then use someone like Frank Ntilikina to take on more difficult defensive assignments, allowing Winston to spend most of his energy on offense.
