There will be no extension for a young Knicks player

Spotrac’s Keith Smith predicted that the New York Knicks would not offer their former lottery winner Obi Toppin an extension deal this offseason.

Toppin is eligible for an extension before the start of next season after completing his third year in the NBA.

“Toppin’s career has been spent as a backup minutes behind Julius Randle. There’s still a lot of a mysterious box quality to the game about it. He does flash when given time, but those flashes are not extension worthy… unless he is traded before the extension expires,” wrote Keith.
