The Warriors could sign former Knicks Allonzo Trier

Just when everyone thought they were part of the team’s long-term plan, the New York Knicks decided to part ways with Allonzo Trier. A month before the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season, the Knicks gave up Trier and let him become an unrestricted free agent. Trier may no longer be needed in New York, but several teams have already shown interest in adding it to their list, including the Golden State Warriors.

After Trier recently turned down Cleveland Cavaliers’ offer, it would be unrealistic for Warriors to add Trier right now. As Josh Schrock of NBC Sports has observed, the Warriors are only $ 310K below the luxury tax line and do not have the flexibility of the salary cap to offer Trier an attractive offer. However, if it is still available on the free agency market in the 2020 offseason, Schrock suggested that the Warriors could offer Trier the $ 5.9 million taxpayer exception.

Trier may not be the superstar the Warriors were trying to acquire, but its successful takeover in the free agency would have strengthened the Golden State bench.

Compared to his previous stint in New York, bringing his talents to the Golden State would give Trier a realistic chance of winning his first NBA championship title next season. In addition, it would allow him to choose the brains of players of the caliber of All-Star such as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. As of now, what Trier is looking for in his next team remains unknown. But if he wants to play for a legitimate title contender, the Warriors would undeniably be an ideal destination for Trier in free agency.
