The Knicks start again without a star

Leon Rose has done a lot of good things since joining the Knicks.

Rose has hired respected scouts, an NBA mover and shaker named William Wesley, an acclaimed head coach in Tom Thibodeau, and a slew of revered player development coaches.

What Rose forgot to do was update last season’s 21-45 roster.

With a hasty retirement starting Tuesday with individual training, the Knicks look a lot like last season’s edition: a losing team without a star at home.

While draft night was a success with college player of the year selection Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley, the Knicks’ $ 40 million cap wasn’t a big buy.

The club is still stuck with a $ 18.5 million cap. He can bring that payroll into the season to provide commercial flexibility if a star beyond Russell Westbrook or Victor Oladipo becomes available.

The added bonus is that the Knicks are set for a star-studded 2021 free agency with potential $ 70 million of coverage space and a likely high lottery seed for a loaded 2021 class draft.
