The Knicks expect to bring back a perimeter scorer to bolster the depth

The New York Knicks were hoping that guard Landry Shamet would carve out a nice role off the bench to provide some extra points for a weak second unit. However, a sprained shoulder suffered in the preseason derailed those plans, which led the Knicks to waive him before the start of the regular season.

However, Shamet will eventually be healthy enough to return to the court, and when that time comes, the Knicks expect him to return to the court to be a major contributor off the bench.

“Looking ahead, sharpshooter Landry Shamet is expected to be re-signed by the Knicks when he is healthy, with the hope that forward Matt Ryan clears waivers and re-signs to a two-way contract, league sources told HoopsHype,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote.

Shamet was originally signed to a non-guaranteed training camp contract early in the preseason and made a strong impression on the court during preseason action. He appeared to be a sure thing to make the roster until he suffered the injury, but the Knicks still have a use for him when he returns.
