When it comes to the New York Knicks and coach Tom Thibodeau, there has always been a tangible connection with Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns. Having previously coached in Minnesota, Thibodeau’s existing relationship with Towns suggests a potential synergy, but it remains questionable whether Towns would be a good fit for the Knicks.
As the offseason approaches, and if Minnesota considers dumping Towns after an All-Star season featuring a 41.6% success rate from beyond the arc, the Knicks could see him as a valuable acquisition.
Karl-Anthony Towns boasted averages of 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and three assists last season, complemented by a .504 field goal percentage and .575 effective field goal percentage. While there is no doubt about Towns’ offensive ability, the debate intensifies when he compares him to Julius Randle.
If the Knicks were to pursue Towns, they would likely need to dump Randle, an All-NBA player and a formidable power forward. However, an anonymous NBA executive hinted at potential interest from the Knicks via Heavy.com : “That team (the Timberwolves) is constantly changing. They want to continue building on what they’ve done this year, but they can’t afford it. So I think it’s 100% expected that if they leave when the dust settles, the Knicks will be there.”
