The Knicks announced in a press release that they are taking steps to solidify their roster ahead of the NBA season, waiving veteran guard Landry Shamet, forward TJ Warren, and forward Chuma Okeke.
While Okeke and Warren were underdogs from the start, Shamet emerged as the favorite to secure a spot until injuries threw a wrench into that idea.
If Shamet’s recovery takes longer than expected, there’s a chance Okeke or Warren could find their way back onto the roster two weeks into the season, when New York will need to add a 13th man. Ariel Hukporti, who is expected to be promoted from his two-way contract, will take the 14th spot.
But that’s not the end of the road for Warren, who plans to join the G League’s Westchester Knicks, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. So Warren could be a prime candidate for a promotion as the season progresses, as his experience and scoring ability could come in handy if the Knicks deal with injuries or need a spark off the bench later in the year.
