The New York Knicks are ready to reward Tom Terrific.
In an appearance Wednesday on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” show, The Athletic’s Shams Charania shared a notable (but perhaps not unexpected) update on Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. Charania said the Knicks are looking to give Thibodeau a “long-term” contract extension. It also wouldn’t be surprising if Thibodeau’s extension was closer to $10 million per year, Charania added.
The 66-year-old Thibodeau has done an exemplary job since taking over as the Knicks’ head coach in 2020. In his first season, he won the NBA Coach of the Year Award after helping the team break a nearly ten years. This season, Thibodeau led the Knicks to a 50-win season and now has them just one win away from their first conference finals berth since 2000.
Thibodeau, who holds an overall record in New York of 175-143 (.550), still has one year remaining on his current contract with the Knicks. But the team may look to reward Thibodeau at some point, especially because of how much his players love him.
