Earlier this month, Jalen Brunson signed a contract extension to remain with the New York Knicks. Now, his coach may soon do the same. Tom Thibodeau could receive a contract extension very soon. According to a recent report from NBA insider Marc Stein, he expects an announcement to be made “in the near future.”
Thibodeau is entering the final season of the initial contract he signed with the Knicks when he was hired in 2020. In recent months, it has been widely expected to be extended.
“There was strong expectation in the desert that a contract extension for Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau would be announced in the near future,” Stein reported.
Stein reported earlier this offseason that Thibodeau’s new contract could be as high as $10 million per year, an increase from his current mark of $8 million per year. The new deal would align with some of the highest-paid coaches in the league.
Extending Thibodeau as the Knicks are entering a championship window helps maximize the team’s potential for the future. The players bought into the culture he brought to the team, and he helped right the ship to turn the Knicks into true contenders for the first time in decades.
