The Knicks acquire Karl-Anthony Towns from the Wolves

In a major NBA offseason deal, the New York Knicks have acquired All-Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves will reportedly receive All-Star forward Julius Randle, guard Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick. The draft pick will be a protected 2025 first-round pick in the top 13 that was previously taken by the Detroit Pistons.

The trade will require a third team to balance the salary swap, with the Charlotte Hornets filling that role.

Towns, 28, is entering the first year of a four-year, $220 million contract extension. Randle, 29, is set to make $28.9 million in the 2024-25 season and has a $30.9 million player option for next season. DiVincenzo, 27, has three years remaining on his contract worth nearly $36 million.

The trade continues an offseason that saw the Knicks acquire Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets. New York is looking to build on a 50-32 season that saw them reach the Eastern Conference semifinals.
