The former Knicks executive thinks trading Julius Randle would be a big mistake

The New York Knicks have been inching closer to a championship roster over the past six months and could use one of their best players to help add to their efforts. However, one former Knicks general manager thinks doing so would be a fundamental mistake for the team.

Scott Perry, who served as the Knicks’ GM from the summer of 2017 until the summer of 2023, recently spoke on the “Hoop Genius” podcast and said how critical it is for the Knicks to keep All-Star Julius Randle for the time being , amid a wave of trade rumors (h/t Scott Davis of The Sporting News):

“People seem to forget who Julius Randle is. Julius Randle is the only three-time All-Star on his team. He’s the only two-time All-NBA player. You can’t rush him out of the building,” he said. said Perry.

“And I love OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges, but they’re not guys you can run the offense with. They play with other good players, top players. They’re in their best position playing with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. Because they’re your two guys who can really get to the basket against a set defenseā€¦ Julius Randle, hold on to him unless you can replace him with another All-NBA player or an All-Star Because without him, I don’t know, the Knicks would be still formidable, but they would be missing a guy who can create offense against a set defense and when things break down and everything shouldn’t just be on Jalen Brunson’s shoulders.”
