The Bucks have clear ideas to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the NBA’s most physically talented player, the 2020 Defender of the Year and the reigning NBA MVP. So it’s no secret that the Bucks would love nothing more than to make him happy and the face of their franchise beyond the next offseason when he’s a free agent. Easier said than done, as any NBA team could court Greek Freak by this time next year. But only the Bucks can give him a super-max contract.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks is in the air after the team’s second-round playoff exit at the Miami Heat. Antetokounmpo has expressed his interest in staying with the Bucks, and it looks like the Milwaukee management will do anything to please the MVP in charge.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry told Antetokounmpo that the team is willing to spend on luxury tax to build around him. The two reportedly met for three hours on Friday to discuss the 2019-10 campaign and how they can improve for next season. Lasry will continue discussions with Antetokounmpo after the player returns from vacation.

So not only can the Bucks offer Antetokounmpo most of the money, they are also willing to bleed money to build a true title contender around the most dominant two-way star in the league.

The team could trade Antetokounmpo to get, at least, some value for him. However, this latest news makes it seem unlikely unless the franchise becomes convinced it can’t sign generational talent for another run.
