Steve Kerr ‘courted very hard’ by Phil Jackson and the Knicks back in 2014

Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks did their best to hire Steve Kerr back in 2014, but the latter decided to join the Golden State Warriors.

During the negotiations, even the Warriors believed Kerr would eventually sign with the Knicks and would move to New York.

“Steve was being courted very hard by Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks. And at one point during the process, it felt like that’s where he was going to go. And so we didn’t think that we were going to even have an opportunity to really sit down and talk with Steve.

And I believe it was while we were meeting with Stan down in Orlando, that Steve called Bob and said he kinda had a change of heart and he wanted to meet with us,” the former Warriors assistant general manager Travis Schlenk said on 95.7 The Game last week, via Alex Didion of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Since 2014, coach Kerr has led the Warriors to five straight NBA Finals (2015-2019) and three titles (2015, 2017, 2018).
