Jericho Sims started in place of Towns, but it was Precious Achiuwa who stole the show off the bench for the Knicks. Overall, she finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks in 30 minutes off the bench.
Her presence was more pronounced in overtime, where she made a crucial block on Tyrese Maxey when the Knicks led by eight points, and hit a smooth finger-roll layup to give them a three-possession lead with less than two minutes left.
Achiuwa needed that spark in overtime, as she allowed Maxey to score the tying basket via goalie to force overtime. New York’s bench has given them very little production this season, but Achiuwa and Miles McBride (13 points, 3-of-4 3PT) both stepped up in a big way when given a much larger role with Towns out.
