Patrick Ewing tied a Finals record with eight blocked shots on this date in 1994

Patrick Ewing dominated the Houston Rockets on both ends of the court. He led the New York Knicks to a 91-84 victory at Madison Square Garden. The victory gave New York a 3-2 series lead.

Ewing was able to outplay Hakeem Olajuwon in the game. Ewing finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks. Olajuwon had 27 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

The Knicks also got key contributions from John Starks and Anthony Mason. Starks scored 19 points and Mason finished with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

The game was tied after three quarters but the Knicks outscored Houston 30-23 in the fourth quarter.

Ewing’s record stood for 15 years, until Dwight Howard blocked nine shots in Game 4 of the 2009 NBA Finals for the Orlando Magic.
