Optimism that the NBA season resumes

There is a growing sense of optimism around the league that this NBA season can be saved amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A virtual NBA Board of Governors meeting is scheduled for April 17.

Sam Amick of The Athletic notes that if games are going to be played, they will be done so without fans in attendance.

There was also reportedly another idea presented by a team owner.

“One team owner, for example, discussed a scenario in which players were given approximately a month to get back in shape (including their team training camp) starting in early June, the regular season began in July and the Finals were eventually played in … late October,” according to Amick. “Another owner agreed wholeheartedly that league-wide confidence was growing that this season would be saved, as did a few other folks who have a quality read of the room.”

The NBA is set on finding a way to salvage the season somehow, whether it’s shortening the rest of the regular season with a shorter postseason or going straight to the playoffs.

There remains no specific date for the NBA to return yet.
