New York Knicks should target Fred VanVleet in a free agency

Fred VanVleet is one of the few promising names among the 2020 free agents. Having just celebrated his 26th birthday, VanVleet is entering his career right now. He is currently enjoying a career year with Toronto, averaging 17.6 points, 6.6 assists, 3.8 boards, 2.7 treys and 1.9 steals.

VanVleet is not only able to distribute basketball, but it can also stretch defenses. VanVleet is also able to play in both guard positions, as evidenced by sharing backcourt responsibilities with Kyle Lowry for most of the past two years. It is easy to imagine him alongside Frank Ntilikina in New York, considering their complementary skill sets. New York would also be able to feel comfortable developing a guard with their 2020 lottery pick.

The Raptors have made it known that they intend to redesign VanVleet, but the Knicks will have the opportunity to make Toronto sweat. Given the likely reality that the wage cap will drop dramatically in the future due to the billions of dollars in losses due to the season suspended, few teams will have room to play with this summer.

So if the Knicks could convince VanVleet about a deal starting at around $ 18 million, it would be a better allocation of their resources.
