Jalen Brunson is entering the final guaranteed season of his current contract with the New York Knicks. The All-Star guard has a player option on his contract for 2025-26, which is why Knicks management will want to act quickly to secure their cornerstone superstar for the foreseeable future.
Apparently, a new deal could be imminent. According to a new report, Brunson could be on the verge of putting pen to paper on a massive extension as soon as this week.
According to Legion Hoops on The big catch, however, is that Brunson could potentially secure a much higher salary if he waited another year:
“The Knicks may offer a 4-year, $157 million extension to Jalen Brunson this Friday, and he is reportedly considering signing it, per @FredKatz.
“If he decides not to sign him, he could sign a 5-year, $269 million contract next summer (via @RealGM),” the report reads.
If Brunson decides to push back his extension until next summer, he could potentially earn around $53.8 million per year on his new deal. That translates to a $14.5 million per season change if Brunson decides to sign an extension now.
