After a slow start to the NBA season, the New York Knicks are starting to find their stride, winning three of their last four games, led by superstar guard Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. The Knicks capped off a strong week with a 118-85 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, improving their season mark to 12-8 and securing fourth place in the Eastern Conference. On Monday, following the Knicks’ win, the NBA announced that Jalen Brunson was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season. Over the past week, Brunson averaged 26.8 points, 9.8 assists and shot 52.4 percent from beyond the arc as the Knicks went 3-1. Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
To kick off the week against the Denver Nuggets, Jalen Brunson collected a whopping 17 assists in a blowout win, adding 23 points, while Towns and OG Anunoby led the team in scoring. In the next two games against the Mavericks and Hornets, Brunson continued his stellar play, tallying 37 points in one game and 31 points in the next, while tallying 13 assists in the two games. This season, Brunson is averaging 25.4 points, 7.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds. He is the driving force behind what the Knicks can accomplish in the Eastern Conference, as each team looks to unseat the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics. Brunson’s play is key, and this Knicks team arguably has the most talent since Carmelo Anthony, perhaps even more so than those teams. However, the key for them is to put it all together and, at the moment, they seem to be finding their rhythm, which is a promising sign for all New York Knicks fans.
