NBA, Doc Rivers is the new coach of the Philadelphia 76ers

The absence of the former Clippers coach from an NBA bench lasted only a few days. In Philadelphia, in fact, it took very little to convince Doc Rivers to accept the job of the 76ers: after 72 hours as an “unemployed”, the coach returned to lead an Atlantic Division team, thus becoming one of the main opponents of the Boston Celtics – the franchise with which he won his only NBA title in 2008. 76ers GM Elton Brand initiated contacts with Rivers’ agent as early as Monday, convincing him to leave for Philadelphia 48 hours later to discuss a possible deal: a meeting that was also attended by owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer who put on a 5-year contract that Rivers immediately accepted. The former L.A. coach thus defeats the competition of Mike D’Antoni – the coach with whom the 76ers had been working for a couple of weeks – fascinated by a challenge like that of leading another team with a great history and enormous charm, which is missing an NBA title since 1983.
