NBA: Andre Drummond was bought out by the Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement on an acquisition deal with Andre Drummond.

The center, which hasn’t played since February 12 when the Cavs were looking for business partners for him before the commercial deadline, was bought out of his contract on Friday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Cleveland was not as active as expected at the deadline, sending JaVale McGee to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Isaiah Hartenstein and a couple of future second-round picks. But he couldn’t find a business partner for Drummond.

The 27-year-old has averaged 17.5 points and 12.9 rebounds in 33 games in more than a season in Cleveland.

It wasn’t necessarily his performance on the pitch that made the teams retreat at the deadline; rather it was his main contract. He was expected to owe $ 28.75 million this season, the last year before he went into free agency.
