After a rough shooting night through three quarters, Mikal Bridges found his rhythm late in Game 4, hitting two critical three-pointers. Bridges credits teammate Cameron Payne’s vocal support — and tough love — for helping him stay locked in.
Mikal Bridges endured a brutal start in Game 4 against the Detroit Pistons, shooting just 1-of-10 from the field across the first three quarters. But when the New York Knicks needed him most, Bridges came alive — and he points to a surprising source of motivation: teammate Cameron Payne.
According to The New York Post’s Jared Schwartz, Bridges hit two massive three-pointers in the fourth quarter, helping New York erase an 11-point deficit and escape with a 94-93 win. After the game, he explained that Payne’s encouragement — and some playful trash talk — helped push him through the slump.
Cameron Payne’s Voice Made the Difference
“I think the biggest is Cam Payne,” Bridges said.
“He’s big on voicing, helping me out. Sometimes, him calling me some not good names helps as well. It just feeds off that.”
Payne, who hasn’t seen much floor time since scoring 14 points in Game 1, has continued to make his presence felt on the sidelines. His energy and blunt support have kept Bridges and the rest of the team mentally sharp.
Staying Aggressive Through the Struggles
Bridges’ ability to shake off a tough shooting night and deliver when it mattered speaks volumes about his growth and resilience. Even when his shot isn’t falling early, the Knicks know Bridges can impact winning — whether it’s defensively, with key shot-making late, or just by staying aggressive.
With New York now up 3-1 and heading back to Madison Square Garden, Bridges’ confidence boost — and Payne’s behind-the-scenes influence — could loom large as the Knicks look to close out the series.
