It’s not often that a 25-year-old striker with the advantage of Christian Wood is available on the free agent market without restrictions. But his unusual path to becoming a budding star led him to do free will at a young age.
Wood probably deserves the biggest free agent power deal this offseason, leaving Anthony Davis’ situation in Los Angeles aside. Teams may be reluctant to invest heavily in a player who hasn’t proven himself to be a star talent for the entire course of a season. However, expect him to receive competitive offers in the $ 15 million annual salary range.
His age fits the Knicks timeline. He can continue to develop his game along with the rest of the young roster. He can also find a seat next to Mitchell Robinson, perhaps making up for the minutes at times, but not a train wreck if the two play together.
