Knicks, the reasons why Carmelo Anthony is not the right choice

Carmelo Anthony has just finished an amazing comeback season with the Portland Trailblazers, proving he still deserves to be in the NBA. With Knicks president Leon Rose as his former agent, many have speculated about a potential return to New York.

Anthony led the Knicks to their last playoff appearance and has been one of the lone bright spots for the team for the past decade. However, returning to the Knicks would be unsatisfactory for both sides.

First, signing a player largely based on nostalgia is extremely absurd. Anthony accepted a minor role in Portland but still relied on solitary confinement for most of his offense. Only 39% of his two-point field goals were assisted.

He also started in all 58 appearances last season, so the front office would need to get him off the bench.

His defense has never been great and it certainly hasn’t improved with age. While his laid-back personality suggests he’ll get along well with the younger Knicks, the product on the pitch is what appears to be in danger.

Anthony’s three-point shot was solid, but distance for RJ Barrett doesn’t matter when Barrett rarely has the ball in his hands. Bringing Anthony will only increase the problems with spreading wealth that the Knicks previously had with Marcus Morris.
